WHITNEY PRESERVATION PARTNERSHIP & SOCIAL CLUB

WHAT IS The “PPSC”?

The WHITNEY PRESERVATION PARTNERSHIP & SOCIAL CLUB

Our mission is to encourage community participation in the preservation of the historic Whitney mansion as a public space. We are pledged to maintain the historical integrity of the structure, it’s interior and it’s mechanics whenever possible. The Whitney preservation partnership will also assist in neighborhood revitalization by supporting select new businesses, sourcing locally and contributing to area nonprofits and cultural attractions.

We welcome our social club members to enjoy dining discounts and VIP events throughout the year.

A letter from the Owner:

I have lived in Detroit for more than 50 years and have come to love this city.  When I left Chrysler in 2001, I decided that I wanted to have a business in the city.  It never occurred to me to own a restaurant. In fact, it was probably the last thing on my mind.  But at the time Detroit seemed to be sinking.  The economy was tough (and soon got a lot tougher with Chrysler and GM bankruptcies, followed by the city’s own bankruptcy – the largest by any city ever), and too much of Detroit’s great architecture was being allowed to go to seed.

I didn’t want that to happen to The Whitney.  When the opportunity to buy the restaurant came up, I decided to go for it.  To preserve it.  To keep at least something of “old Detroit” alive.  It was an act of my heart, not necessarily my brain.  It has become a labor of love and, OK, over the years occasionally of frustration and continued costs. But here we are. And where we are now is actually a great place to be, a revitalized and lively one-of-a-kind restaurant in a mansion on Woodward Ave. in a now resurging and exciting city.  Who’d a thought?!

My son, Patrick, who runs the Preservation Partnership & Social Club program, The Whitney staff, and I are thrilled to have a “family” of PPSC partners who through their membership, visits, and word-of-mouth to their friends and family help us to keep this place going and on top of its game.  PPSC dues, and the money our guest spend, goes back into our revitalization and historic preservation efforts. In return, PPSC members receive behind-the-scenes information, special event opportunities, advanced ticket sales and food and beverage discounts that keep them coming back again and again.  That’s the way partnerships are supposed to work, something for everyone.

Please take a look at what the Preservation Partnership & Social Club does and consider joining us. We think you’ll be glad you did…and we know we will!  Help us keep this piece of Old Detroit new and vital while doing something fun for yourself at the same time. We look forward to welcoming you!
